best edible playdough recipe marble

Possibly the best edible playdough recipe. And it’s marble!

Store-bought playdough is not nearly as good as its homemade counterpart.

There, we said it!

At We Might Be Tiny HQ we love a fresh batch of homemade, edible playdough.

That’s why we’re bringing you possibly the best edible playdough recipe for you and your tiny human.

It’s free from nasties, edible (hang on, we already said that) and no-cook. And it’s marble!

This quick, no-cook playdough recipe gives you extra time with your little one and delivers silky-smooth playdough that will last for days (possibly weeks) if stored correctly.

What we love most are the marble effects. Why settle for one colour when you can have them all, right?

Pick your favourite natural food colours and create a few colour combos by splitting the playdough into smaller portions as you go along.

Once you’ve got your playdough ready to rock and roll, simply grab a We Might Be Tiny Stampies set to turn playtime into an instant zoo session within the comfort of your home.

Our Stampies set comes with a stainless steel cookie cutter, 1 wooden stamper and 15 easily interchangeable, food-grade silicone animal stamps. It’ll be hard to pick your favourite!

Ingredients

  • 390 g (3 cups) flour
  • 370 g (1 ½ cups) salt
  • 80 g (1/2 cup) cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 500 ml (2 cups) boiling water

What we used

  • salt
  • flour
  • natural food colouring

    How much we spent

    • 1 kg salt $1.50
    • 1 kg flour $1
    • natural food colouring $4-$6

    Instructions

Combine the dry ingredients and cooking oil in a bowl then add the boiling water.

Stir well until the mixture leaves the sides of the bowl. If the mixture is too sticky, add a little more flour.

Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for a few minutes before wrapping in baking paper and allowing to rest for 15 minutes.

Divide the playdough into small balls. Add a few drops of your chosen food colouring onto each ball and knead the colour into the dough until you have a marbled effect.

Choose your favourite Stampies and make some animal magic.
